Is the PSA and digital rectal exam necessary? I've had a digital rectal exam, once. Personally, I'd rather die from prostate cancer than do it again. However, I have no plans on that happening either. Prostate health is more complex than a PSA. Below is a hotlink to a very current article published in a peer-reviewed jounral which VERY MUCH questions the value of the PSA, digital rectal exam. Please read May 2009 in the journal Current Oncology http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2695709/?tool=pubmed Not to mention the National Cancer Institute found that 75% of prostate biopsies are unnecessary. I question the value in these biopsies, which have the potential to free an otherwise controlled growth of cells gone bad. Prostate cancer is more than surgery and drugs. A change in diet, nutritional needs met, toxins such as heavy metals addressed, and hormone balance are all key. Wake up America. |
