HPV (vaccine)

April 16, 2011
Are you considering the HPV vaccine Gardasil for your daughter, or yourself? If so, think twice.

Approved in 2006 for females aged 9-26, this vaccine is supposed to prevent against HPV/cervical cancer.

Merck made $1.4 billion from this drug in 2008. They would love to expand their sales to women of a wider age span, and to all within that group.  Which is why they began lobbying the states to make it mandatory for all little girls before entering middle school. Money, Money MONEY!

I have 2 wonderful boys, and wish I had a girl. If I did, I would NEVER give her this drug.

First - No one knows how long the immunization will last. When entering middle school, you're at the age of about 11. Even if the drug worked, and had no side effects, I would hope she wouldn't be sexually active for quite a few years. We just don't know how long it holds for.

Second - It appears that it only protects against 4 of the more than 100 different strains of HPV.

Third - It is NOT free of side effects

Fourth - Half of all cervical cancers have no HPV infection.

Fifth - The current death rate for cervical cancer is about 2 per 100,000 women. Very uncommon under age 35, and virtually non-existent before 20. Is the expense worth it, considering that there are also great natural options?

Why is it here in America we can't sue vaccine manufacturers?

Why is it here in America we have far more vaccines pushed on us than the industrialized nations of Europe?

Land of the free???

Thank you for posting this information. I did NOT recommend this for my daughter because I felt the potential risks from side effects outweighed the benefits. My opinion, the pharmaceutical business is more interested in money than saving lives - corporate greed. Pharmaceuticals have the highest profit margins. I always wonder, where does all the money go to that is raised for cancer research? With all that money, one would think a better treatment than chemotherapy and radiation would have been found by now? Maybe a cure or prevention is not the goal? If there is a cure, there are no profits. I say give the money to the cancer patients, not the pharmaceutical companies. Land of the greedy.
